According to the Pew Research Center, the number of Americans who identify themselves as Christians has declined nearly 8% in the last seven years, continuing a downward trend. Further, those who identify themselves as "unaffiliated" (defined by Pew as atheist, agnostic, or "nothing in particular") have risen almost 7% over that same time period. Overall, attendance at "main-line" Protestant and Catholic churches has been on a steady decline. Indeed, a quick glance at the evening news shows that those who are "religious" stand to be dismissed and/or vilified for their beliefs. It would seem that people of faith and their beliefs, which we all hold so dearly, are constantly under pressure to conform to the prevailing world trends.
